He has established an international programme of research in CVD and prevention involving 85 countries. His studies have established the role of ACE- inhibitors in CVD prevention (the HOPE study), dual antiplatelet therapies in acute coronary syndromes (the CURE study), novel antithrombotics and the appropriate place of invasive interventions. His pioneering epidemiologic work involving the INTERHEART and INTERSTROKE studies in over 60 countries have identified that the majority of risks of both conditions are attributable to a few common risk factors and are similar in impact worldwide. His ongoing study (PURE) explores the role of societal changes in the development of CVD and other NCDs. He is a graduate of St. John Medical College, Bangalore University, India
