Dr. Jitendra Vohra

Professor Jitendra Vohra is a Cardiologist/ Electrophysiologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) in Melbourne, Australia. He established the Electrophysiology Service and introduced Radiofrequency ablation for cardiac arrhythmias at the RMH and implanted the first Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) in Australia in 1984. He was recently appointed as Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Melbourne in Feburary 2015. This recognises Professor Vohra’s outstanding academic achievements and leadership in research, teaching, clinical practice and to the medical profession.

He has trained a large number of Australian and overseas Cardiologists and Electrophysiologists and is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at Melbourne University.

He was awarded lifetime achievement award by the board of Governors of Melbourne Health in 2012 and was elected Member Of Australia (AM) in the Australia Day honours in Jan 2013 ‘for services to Cardiology’.
